Postdoctoral Researcher
Enhancement Program

Purpose
To help postdoctoral trainees better prepare for their future careers, LSU Health Shreveport has created a Postdoctoral Researcher Enhancement Program (PREP). Postdocs will dedicate a portion of their time (with their mentor’s approval) to career development and training to prepare for their next career step.
Disclaimer: This program does not serve as an official credential and does not guarantee future employment or fulfill any official job requirements. However, it aims to better equip postdocs for their future careers by offering training and opportunities for career exploration.
Desired Outcomes for Postdoctoral Fellows
- Build a practical and balanced schedule that is reasonable for a postdoc’s time commitment.
- Achieve success in their next career step.
- Gain confidence when applying for positions in academia or alternative paths.
Requirements
To achieve certification through the PREP, the following are required.
- Two years of postdoctoral experience
- Individual development plan (IDP)
- IDSP 241 Ethics and Professionalism (12 hours)
- Weekly Seminar (1 hour per week)
- Weekly Journal club (1 hour per week)
- 52 hours of elective career training activities: would be an average of half an hour per week spread over two years.
Required and elective activities are recorded and tracked using a web-based tracking system.
Note: The principal investigator may require some of the activities listed below as electives as a condition of postdoctoral fellowship funding or for other reasons.
Curriculum
Assessment and Conclusion of the Training
Postdoctoral fellows participating in the training program will be responsible for self-monitoring, documenting their progress, and fulfilling requirements through an online portal currently under development. Upon completing all program requirements, the postdoctoral fellow will receive a completion certificate acknowledging their participation, completion of the training, and a distinction in teaching if they participated in the course. Additionally, they will be required to complete an exit survey designed to assess strengths and identify opportunities for program improvement.
