LSU Health Shreveport is fully committed to maintaining a supportive educational environment free from hazing that promotes mental and physical well-being, safety, and mutual respect. Hazing is defined as any behavior designed to harm, punish, or humiliate others.

Hazing of any kind is illegal and strictly prohibited. Engaging in any hazing activity may result in separation from LSU Health Shreveport, as well as possible felony charges by law enforcement.

REPORT AN INCIDENT

Reporting

Students and employees are required to immediately report any incident(s) of hazing or potential/planned hazing.

Allegations of hazing will be investigated under Administrative Directive 2.8.13 Non-Academic Professionalism, which outlines the procedures for addressing non-academic misconduct and provides due process protections.

Bystander Assistance

Bystander assistance for any person who has suffered serious bodily injury is required by Louisiana law. Any person at the scene of the emergency shall report the need for medical assistance and provide reasonable assistance to the injured person. The obligation extends to all people, including those who engaged in reckless behavior, which caused serious bodily injury.

LSU PM-80 Prohibition of Hazing
"Louisiana State University (“LSU” or the “University”) is fully committed to maintaining a supportive educational environment free from hazing and which promotes the mental and physical well-being, safety and respect of and among its students. As such, hazing is expressly prohibited. This policy applies to all campus locations of LSU."

Laws

H.R.5646 - Stop Campus Hazing Act: Requires colleges and universities to disclose hazing in their Annual Security Report, publish a biannual Hazing Transparency Report, and implement prevention training and awareness programs.
Act No. 174 - Training: Increases the annual training from one to two hours for student organization members, prospective members, and anyone who is employed by or volunteers with the organization.
Act No. 382 - Criminal Hazing: Requires non-confidential information related to hazing incidents to be made publicly available.
Act No. 481 - Civil Damages: Authorizes exemplary damages in civil actions for death from hazing.
Act No. 635 - The Max Gruver Act/Criminal Hazing: Creates the crime of criminal hazing, provides definitions, and establishes penalties.
Act No. 637 - Reasonable Assistance: Creates an obligation to seek medical assistance for someone who has suffered a serious bodily injury.
Act No. 640 - College/University Hazing Policies: Requires that colleges and universities adopt policies prohibiting hazing.
